Flag Holder for Grave and Flag

The State of Rhode Island offers a grave marker/ flag holder for placing an American Flag on the Grave of a Veteran.

This holder is made of cast aluminum alloy is has the Rhode Island Shield, and the words " Veteran Wars of the United States" as well as a small hole through which the 12" x 18" American Flag is mounted.  This marker is mounted flush in the ground, in front of the Veterans headstone. The flag is replaced free of charge each year for Memorial Day. 

Relatives of deceased post members should contact the post for a marker and flag.  

Relatives of non-members should contact the Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery

If your Veteran is buried in the Pocasset Cemetery or Bethany Lutheran Swedish Cemetery their grave will be flagged by our post with the help of the Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts. Both cemeteries are in Cranston, RI.  If your spouse is buried in another cemetery you can pick up a flag on the third Saturday in May at our post from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM.

Presidential Memorial Certificates

Sample Presidential Memorial Certificate

 The Department of Veterans Affairs will provide free of charge a certificate which bear the Presidentís signature expressing the countryís grateful recognition of the veteranís service in the United States Armed Forces.


Eligible recipients include the next of kin and loved ones of honorably discharged deceased veterans. More than one certificate may be provided.



Eligible recipients, or someone acting on their behalf, may apply for a PMC in person at any VA regional office or by U.S. mail or toll-free fax. Requests cannot be sent via email. Please be sure to enclose a copy of the veteran's discharge and death certificate to verify eligibility, as we cannot process any request without proof of honorable military service. Please submit copies only, as we will not return original documents.

If you would like to apply for a Presidential Memorial Certificate, or if you requested one more than eight (8) weeks ago and have not received it yet, we ask that you complete the application and submit it to us.
